I have just discovered that, if you type “ICC” into Google, the first entry that you get is for the “International Cricket Council”. The “International Criminal Court” is in second place. Doesn’t that suggest something about the irrelevance of this particular organisation?
In an article in the BBC, Alex de Waal, one of the most authorative commentators on Darfur, is quoted as saying that the ruling is “pretty toothless” since the ICC does not have it’s own police force.
As I said yesterday, the main damage is going to be the disruption of the political process.
